Granville to honor long time Select Board member

GRANVILLE – The town of Granville is hosting an event this weekend to honor a long-time town official. A picnic will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the Granville town green to honor Richard Woodger.

Woodger has served the town on the Finance Committee, Planning Board, and Select Board for a total of 45 years. This past spring, after serving more than 30 years on the Select Board, Woodger was up for re-election and was challenged by Nicole Berndt. In April, Berndt ended up edging out Woodger 182-181 in the election.

Woodger’s dedication to the town goes farther than serving the town. The long-time Granville resident has been on several committees throughout the years and is also the owner of Rockwood Farms.

“He’s been very involved above and beyond just being on the boards,” said Granville Town Administrator Matt Streeter.

Following the picnic at 4 p.m., food and refreshments will be served, along with live music from The Restless Mountain Band. The public is encouraged to attend and bring a side dish if they choose to.

Woodger is humbled by the gesture from the town, but also wants to make sure other individuals in town that have put in many years and hard work don’t go unnoticed.

“There’s a lot of people that have served the town just like I have,” said Woodger. “It’s kind of overwhelming that they’ve decided to have a picnic in my honor.”
