WESTFIELD – It might not have been pretty, but for the third straight game to begin the 2014-15 high school boys’ basketball season nobody could knock the Westfield Bombers.
Westfield struggled to gain balance offensively Tuesday night but put together a big fourth quarter to elude Chicopee Comp, 57-39. The unbeaten Bombers improved to 3-0.
“It is a good way to go into Christmas,” said Westfield coach Bill Daley, whose team now enjoys a five-day break before beginning a three-game road stretch.
The Bombers travel to Springfield to take on the Central Golden Eagles Mon., Dec. 29 before away games at Minnechaug (Jan. 2) and at Taconic (Jan. 3).
On Tuesday, Westfield missed on several attempts but led 37-31 going into the final quarter, thanks to another solid defensive effort. Isaiah Headley (23 points) and Manny Golob (13) hit a couple of early fourth quarter 3s to put the game away.
Westfield’s Richard Barnett finished with 15 points.
“We were getting good balance (through the first two games of the season), but we struggled making shots tonight,” coach Daley said. “We just didn’t make shots early … With games back to back nights, we were a bit sluggish but we got through it.”
