HS Wrap-up: Saints surge, fade after injury

WESTFIELD – It was a mixed bag of results for several local squads Wednesday with the St. Mary High School boys’ soccer team falling after losing their starting keeper, the Lady Bombers’ girls’ soccer team seeking its first win, and Southwick golf seeking a solid finish.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Saints fall
Mount Everett 4, St. Mary 2

Mount Everett rallied from a one-goal deficit to defeat shorthanded St. Mary at Westfield Middle School North.
Aaron Blanchard and Padraig Smith scored for St. Mary.
“We just couldn’t keep up with their constant subbing,” St. Mary coach Billy Lamirande said.
St. Mary starting goalie Jacob Butler was injured during the game, and did not return.

Gators knotted
Gateway 1, Mahar 1

Gateway’s Jayden Marge scored on a pass from Frank Tangredi, and Shane Mastello made four saves for the Gators (7-3-3).

Doyle, Rams prevail
Southwick 3, Hopkins Academy 1

Nicholas Doyle scored two goals, Brandon Castor tallied one, and Connor Geddis, Austin Davis, and Matt Daley each had an assist for Southwick. Rams’ goalies Nick Chambers and Kyle Demaio combined for six saves.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Colts stomp Bombers
Chicopee Comp 3, Westfield 0

Kathleen Brooks (2 goals) and Haley Tracy (goal) each scored for Chicopee Comp. Colts’ goalie Emily Pavoni (3 saves) earned a shutout.
Westfield goalie Erin McDermott made eight saves.

GOLF
Rams roll
Southwick 22.5, Sabis 1.5

James Longhi shot a 37 at Veterans Golf Course, Jagger Turgeon had a 40, and Chris Molta and Chris Baker each finished with 42s for Southwick (14-2 overall, 10-0 league).

Willenborg leads Saints
Monson 15, St. Mary 9

Luke Willenborg shot an 8-over 44 to lead St. Mary at Tekoa Country Club. Saints’ Andrew Florek finished with a round of 45.

JV BOYS’ SOCCER
Southwick 4, Hopkins Academy 2

Paul Whalley, Eric Haynes, Vincent Diaz, and Nate Girard scored one goal apiece to lead Southwick (6-2-3). Girard also had two assists, and Cade Billings and Vincent Diaz each had one.
