LONGMEADOW – Westfield boys cross country team keeps rolling, adding yesterday’s narrow 28-29 win in Longmeadow to their 3-meet win streak.
The ideal conditions allowed the Bombers to improve to 4-1 on the season with junior Ben Doiron leading the way. Doiron remains undefeated in dual meets.
Westfield took the first two places but barely held off Longmeadow’s pack of five. Junior Cheyenne Grabiec, who has been nursing an injury, claimed second. His comeback was the key piece to the team’s closest victory of the season.
The superb weather and course conditions course assisted Westfield in its effort to run team personal bests.
Westfield’s co-captains Colin Irujo and Liam Flaherty both ran season bests and the Bombers’ young guns, the likes of Matt Roy, Eric Johnson, and Matt DeGrandpre, showed much improvement.
For Westfield the order of finish was: Doiron (1st 16:27), Grabiec (2nd 17:09), Colin Irujo (4th 17:26), Gabe Piepergerdes (10th 18:13), Liam Flaherty (11th 18:34), Brian Davis (12th 18:35), and Will Steger (13th 18:40).
