Bombers meet expectations

AGAWAM – Some of the names may change, but the results remain the same for the Westfield High School gymnastics team.
Westfield improved to 4-0 this season, and stretched its win streak to 82-0 with a 132.8-124.925 road victory Tuesday.
“It was a good meet,” Westfield coach Joanne Hewins said.
Taryn Hamel, a name familiar to many on the gymnastics scene, won her third straight All-Around competition to begin the season. Hamel placed first on the uneven bars (8.1) and balance beam (8.75), second on the vault (8.4), and third in the floor exercise (8.5) to capture the overall top spot with a 33.75.
Agawam’s Alyson Renaud was second (33.25).
Brendan Whitman won gold on the vault (8.45) and floor (9.0) for Westfield, also tying teammate Josh Burrage on the latter event.
Angela Bonavita and Kendall Neidig shared second place on bars (8.0), and was also second on beam (8.35). Neidig was third on vault (8.35) and beam (7.9)
Westfield swept the top five places on vault with Becky Cyr and Bonavita claiming fourth (8.25) and fifth (8.2), respectively.
Other notable finishes for Westfield included: Maeve Reynolds (bars, 4th/7.8), Stephanie Waite (floor, 4th/8.15), and Rachel Patenaude (beam, 5th/7.8).
