John “Jack” F. Deacon

BECKET: John “Jack” F. Deacon passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center. He celebrated his 66th birthday on August 1st with those he loved. On that date 66 years ago, he was born in Westfield to Joan M. (Slater) and the late George F. Deacon, both of whom loved and cherished their sweet son. Jack had a rich and full life. He always recollected an amazing childhood: full of adventure, family, nature and animals. Jack was incredibly gifted, and as a young adult received his Associate’s Degree from Holyoke Community College. He was an operating engineer for Local 98 as a crane and heavy equipment operator for the majority of his career. Jack loved to water ski, drive fast boats, fish, snowmobile, play pool and was a genius when it came to rebuilding Volkswagen Beetles and Buses. Jack resided in Becket, MA for the last 30 years where he created a beautiful oasis for his family with his landscaping talent and, of course, his own backhoe. More than anything, Jack loved his wife and children, and the time they spent together.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Susan L. (Davis) Deacon of Becket, his cherished daughters, Jaime L. Deacon, her husband Dave Thompson “the son Jack never had” and their son (Jack’s Grandson) Thatcher of Starksboro, VT and Jennifer M. Deacon of Becket, his brother Mark E. Deacon of Westfield, and sister Diane L. James and her husband Lee of Anaheim, CA, nephew Matthew Deacon and his wife Amy Deacon, niece Kristina Deacon, niece Cynthia Stagnaro and the late AJ Stagnaro, nieces Katie James and Whitney James and many cousins. Jack had many friends who loved him and who affectionately called him “Captain Jack.” Mario Godbout was one of those friends, and has been one of Jack’s best friends for many years. He also leaves two very special friends that he shared many laughs and memories with were Paul Moore and Ellen McMahon. Jack lived a life full of love and passion, and will be missed dearly.

A Funeral Home Service will be held for Jack on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 2 PM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085. Visiting hours will precede the service from 12-2 PM in the funeral home.
