WESTFIELD: Maria Isabel (Lopez) Vázquez, 86, of Westfield passed away Monday surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on May 23, 1935 the daughter of the late Asuncion Lopez and Perfecta Quiñones. Maria moved to Westfield in 1955. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and member of Las Cofradas Del Sagrado Corazón and the Westfield YMCA. She was an avid gardener and seamstress.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Rafael Vázquez Cruz. She is survived by her four children, Miriam Rivera and her late husband Luis Rivera of Humacao, Puerto Rico, Nancy Halloran and her husband Timothy Halloran of Westfield, Jimmy Vázquez and his wife Pamela (Lindquist) of Haverhill, and Minerva Vázquez of Bristol, RI. Maria adored her nine grandchildren, Luis M. Rivera, Jr., Nayda Padilla and her husband Pedro, Lyllian Ayala and her husband Hector, Kelsey Halloran and fiancé Jonathan Croft, Sara Halloran and partner Michael Frayne, Jamieson Vázquez and fiancé Stephanie Querzoli, Nicholas Vázquez and his wife Lauren, Nathaniel Vázquez and fiancé Jessica Fenderson, and Sean McFarland and his wife Emily Ward, her nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by five siblings, Julia Lopez Rojas, Lydia Rivera, Jose Luis Santiago, Luz Santiago, Gloria Santiago, and was predeceased by three siblings, Angelita Santiago Quiñones, Rosa Lopez and Ramon Santiago. Maria will also be dearly missed by her late husband’s eleven surviving siblings. She will also be missed by her lifelong friends in the community, to know her was to love her.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 16th, at 9:00 AM from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield followed at 10:00 AM by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, August 15th, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
