8:43 a.m.; motor vehicle violation, Noble Street at East Silver Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
11:14 a.m.: identity fraud, Devon Terrace, a resident came to the station to complain of fraudulent use of her bank account, the responding officer reports the woman said that she attempted to use her ATM card and it was denied despite a sufficiency of funds in her account, the woman caller her bank and learned that her account had been frozen due to two suspicious transactions made in Minnesota, the woman said that her bank reimbursed her account for the fraudulent transactions, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the detective bureau;
11:54 a.m.: animal complaint, East Main Street, multiple callers report a boxer dog has been locked inside a parked vehicle for a half hour, the dispatcher noted that the temperature is 83 degrees with sunny sky and 34 percent humidity, the animal control officer responded and reports a citation for cruelty to an animal was issued;
12:12 p.m.: fraud, Hancock Street, resident came to the station to report someone attempted to open a credit account in her name, the woman said that she suffered no loss and no formal report was filed;
2:22 p.m.: public service, Half Mile Falls Park, North Elm Street, an officer was dispatched to the park after skateboarders were seen on video surveillance, the officer reports that after he dealt with two youths he was approached by construction workers who showed him a ten foot section of railing which had been damaged apparently by a skateboard, the workers told the officer the damage occurred between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, the officer reports the security video will be reviewed;
4:23 p.m.: larceny, Fairview Avenue, a caller reports a package delivered to his mailbox Wednesday was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that he received a delivery confirmation from the post office but merchandise ordered was not in his mailbox;
6:14 p.m.: larceny, Walmart, 141 Springfield Road, a caller reports a female shoplifter as been detained in the store, the responding officer reports the woman was served a “No trespassing” order;
6:38 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the animal control officer reports a person came to the shelter to surrender a black and white Shih Tzu dog;
7:15 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
7:28 p.m.: disturbance, Kellogg Street, a caller reports her former boyfriend was at her home and took some of her property, the responding officer reports the woman said that her children told her that in her absence her estranged husband came to the residence and took some property, the woman said that her daughter wanted something in her husband’s car and when she got it she observed some of her property in the vehicle, the woman said when she took back the item her husband snatched it from her and, grabbing her arm, twisted it behind her back, the woman said that while she was on the phone with police the man returned the item and left, the officer reports a criminal complaint was filed;
8:02 p.m.: arrest, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a known person he believed to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, the officer reports the warrant was confirmed, Shawn M. Buffum, 36, of 83 Main St., was arrested on the warrant;
8:08 p.m.: incapacitated person, Main Street, multiple callers reports an intoxicated man has fallen into bushes, the responding officer reports the man was found with numerous small cuts and abrasions, the man was obviously highly intoxicated and was transported to his home which was nearby but there was nobody there to care for him, the man was urged to go to the hospital and advised that he would otherwise be placed in protective custody but he refused, the man became argumentative and physically combative when he was told he was being taken into protective custody and resisted efforts to emplace handcuffs drawing the attention of onlookers, the officer reports an electronic control device was employed and the man spat at the officers before going limp which forced police and firefighters to move him bodily into a cruiser, Donald Patrick Flynn, 53, of 83.5 Main St., was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault;
10:10 p.m.: fire, South Meadow Road, a caller reports black smoke and flames, dual response dispatched, the responding firefighters report an unattended brush and trash bonfire was found behind tobacco barns in the area, the firefighters found the fire included tires and was extinguished, the area around the fire was thoroughly soaked, the responding officer reports no vehicles were found in the area and nobody was seen leaving the area on foot;
11:02 p.m.: vandalism, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports he observed new graffiti on a wall of a market, the graffiti was applied in blue, orange and white spray paint.
