Southwick’s Lachtara tosses no-hitter

PALMER – For an average high school softball team, blustery conditions may have been cause for alarm. But the Southwick Rams are unflappable, and their ace on the mound is a bit better than average.
Southwick sophomore pitcher Emily Lachtara tossed a no-hitter, recording an impressive 15 strikeouts through seven complete frames in a 7-0 shutout of host Palmer Wednesday. She walked one.
Hits were at a premium in Wednesday’s contest, but the ones Southwick could manage proved to be the difference.
Jenn Yelin belted a home run for Southwick, knocking in 2 base runners. Rams’ Sophia Kelleher walked three times and scored two runs.
