Lion tamers

WESTFIELD – Westfield added another victory to its 2016-17 high school girls’ basketball season resume. The Bombers turned back the Ludlow Lions 41-38 Monday night.
Casey Almeida paved the way for Westfield (2-14) with 20 points. Almeida made two key fourth quarter threes.

Westfield’s Kaela Mochak scored 11 points, Clara Hinck finished with six, Lindsay Kaubris had three, and Katie Knapik, one.
Taylor Masse led Ludlow with 16.

Westfield Tech finally broke through in the win column, defeating visiting Hampden Charter School of Science in a nail-biter.

Southwick’s McKinley White scored a team-high 10 points.

Becca Herman scored a team-high 11 points to fuel Gateway’s win.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Franklin wears down Saints
Franklin Tech 65, St. Mary 54

Franklin Tech rallied from a 32-29 deficit, wearing St. Mary with a bigger, stronger squad.
Jake Butler led St. Mary with 23 points. Saints’ Drew Collins finished with 13, Kevin Rockwal had seven, and Gio DePergola had six.

Lancers prevail
Longmeadow-Westfield 5, Auburn 2

Brigitte Goeler-Slough scored two goals; Taylor Markstein (1 goal, 2 assists) and Madison Pelletier (3 assists) contributed three points apiece; Katelyn Joyal and Mackenzie Pelletier each had a goal; and Jordan Kowalski had two assists, and Lauren Munster had one to lead Longmeadow-Westfield (7-5-1).
Lancers’ goaltender Kayla Brown made 13 saves.

GIRLS’ JV BASKETBALL
Southwick 31, Turners Falls 29

Kathleen Shea scored 10 points, and Southwick escaped Turners Falls High School with a narrow victory.
