Storming back

WESTFIELD – On Tuesday, a maelstrom of heavy rain, lightning, hail storms, and darkness wreaked havoc, derailing several Westfield Little Leaguer’s chances to complete victory.
Although several games were postponed, Westfield took the competition by storm Wednesday.

Westfield 8, Agawam 4

Westfield doubled up Agawam 8-4 Wednesday, securing their spot in Saturday’s championship at Southampton.
Tanner Beebe had two hits and pitched a perfect 2 1/3 innings, recording five strikeouts for Westfield. Dave Garwacki provided three scoreless innings for the win.
Westfield’s Mike Durkee also had two hits.

Nats win again to set up unbeaten showdown
Westfield National 7, Belchertown 2

Westfield National improved to 2-0 with a win on the road at mini Fenway. The Nats next take on one of District 2’s other unbeatens, Westfield American, Thursday at Paper Mill Field at 6 p.m.
Westfield National pitcher Ryder Pieczarka scattered six hits over six innings, striking out six batters and walking two for Westfield National.
Cody Collins went 3-for-3 for Westfield National, doubled and scored on an Anthony Schabowski double in the sixth inning. Mason Perieira also had a big hit.
Westfield National’s defense was on display as well when Wyatt Baker made a running catch with runners on in the fifth inning, and again when Collins tagged second on a hit up the middle and doubled up the runner attempting to score to end the game.

Westfield American 13, Northampton 7

Westfield American jumped on top of Northampton (2-1) with a seven-run, second-inning explosion to remain unbeaten (3-0) and hand their opponent its first loss of the D2 tournament.
Josh Wagner and Ted Dunn each pitched three solid innings for Westfield. Nick Lenfest had three hits for the Whip City All-Stars, and Patrick Moore had two.

Belchertown completes victory
Belchertown 13, Westfield National 3

Westfield National and Belchertown completed a game that was suspended Tuesday night in the second inning due to stormy weather at Mini Fenway in Belchertown.
