WESTFIELD – Westfield State University honored its successful fall sports teams, and celebrated its winter squads in grand fashion Wednesday night on an evening that has become synonymous with college basketball all across the nation – Midnight Madness.
Several teams were announced in a party-like atmosphere inside the campus gymnasium as hundred of college students – players and non-players alike – cheered on its sports teams in the biggest pep rally of the year.
The festivities included a dance off between the cheerleading and dance squads, contests, and several other fun activities for current alumni.
Westfield State sophomore transfer Jordan Santiago, who helped lead Westfield High School to two consecutive Western Massachusetts Division I boys’ basketball finals, made his debut appearance walking alongside his new Owls’ teammates, which includes sensational senior point guard Lee Vazquez.
Another local sports star, Jeremy Tanguay (Gateway) won the half-court shooting contest. Tanguay had a solid freshman debut for the Owls baseballs team this past spring and returns for his sophomore season in 2013.
