Thursday, March 28, 2013
12:40 a.m.: city ordinance violation, patrol officers report they observed a male party urinating in public, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
1:54 a.m: found property, Half Mile Falls Park, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports finding the stripped frame of a bicycle, the frame was transported to the station;
9:40 a.m.: fire, Russell Road, a caller reports that while cleaning her stove it caught fire, the responding firefighters report the stove was removed from the home;
10:25 a.m.: larceny, South Broad Street, a caller reports the theft of diesel fuel from delivery vehicles parked at a distribution company yard, the responding officer reports that the caller said that a review of security video showed a pickup truck with a tank in the bed entered the yard shortly after midnight and about 300 galleons of diesel fuel was stolen from three trucks;
12:33 p.m.: accident, West Silver Street at South Maple Street, a caller reports a tractor trailer unit struck a traffic light, the responding officer reports the traffic standard was knocked down and the vehicle left the area;
1:07 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a representative of an East Main Street used car dealer came to the station to report a dealer’s registration plate is missing;
2:44 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, a person came to the shelter to surrender a white male Chihuahua dog reportedly found on East Silver Street;
4:21 p.m.: larceny, Meadow Street, a resident came to the station to report, via an interpreter, that a television set had been stolen, the responding officer reports the woman said that she took a nap on her couch from 8:30-10 a.m. and when she awoke she found her 32 inch television was gone, the woman said that her daughter was the only person who had been there, the woman also said that her daughter has stolen blank checks from her previously and had forged and cashed six of them for a total of $480, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
8:26 p.m.: vandalism, Frederick Street, a caller reports she was advised by a neighbor that all four of the tires on her car had been slashed, the responding officer reports he was directed to a witness who said she had been on her porch when she heard four popping sounds and described a man seen leaving her neighbor’s driveway, the woman said she investigated to find that all four of her neighbor’s tires were flat so she advised her neighbor, other vehicles parked nearby were not damaged and the victim said that she knows of nobody who harbors animosity toward her;
11:15 p.m.: arrest, Athol St., Springfield, detectives investigating house breaks report taking custody of a suspect in Springfield, Joseph M. George, 32, of 19 Athol St., Springfield, was arrested by Springfield police and transferred to Westfield police custody;

12:03 a.m.: assault, Elm Street, a caller reports she was punched by a known person, the responding officer reports the caller said that she was trying to get a visitor to leave and as she was attempting to push him from her apartment he punched her, the officer observed slight redness on her face and she asked for medical assistance, the woman was transported to Noble Hospital, the suspect was found on Main Street and placed in protective custody, a criminal complaint was filed;
1:05 a.m.: city ordinance violation, a community policing officer reports he observed a male party urinating in public, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
1:24 a.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he saw a group of persons being pushed from an Elm Street bar and observed an apparent fight in progress, the officer reports before he could approach he saw the crowd chase after a male party and a passerby indicated that the fleeing man had assaulted another, the officer gave chase and a backup officer arrived and detained the suspect, the officer reports he found a male party unconscious near the bar and attempted to rouse him, the man opened and reclosed his eyes after about five minutes and eventually became fully conscious, the officer was told that two men had become engaged in an altercation inside the bar and staff had ejected both, the officer reports all the witnesses said that the suspect “sucker punched” the victim when he was not looking who fell to the pavement and struck his head, the suspect was found to be younger than the legal drinking age, a criminal complaint for assault and battery was filed;
3:33 a.m.: found property, a patrol officer reports he observed a DPW street sign which had been ripped from its post, the sign was seized for return to the DPW;
6:28 a.m.: vandalism, Little River Crossing, 93 S. Maple Street, a patrol officer reports he was approached by a resident who complained of vandalism to his vehicle, the officer reports the man said that after an argument with his stepson the youth left his residence, the man said that he subsequently discovered that his vehicle had been keyed over the entire length of the vehicle;
8:01 a.m.: larceny, Orange Street, an eight-year-old caller reports that her father stole her grandmother’s jewelry, the responding officer reports the girl’s mother said that her jewelry valued at more than $2,400 had been stolen, the woman said that she suspects her estranged husband who is the defendant of a protective order used his key to enter her residence, the woman said that the missing items had been stored in several locations and her husband would have known where the valuables were, the case was referred to the detective bureau;
2:07 p.m.: violation of a protective order, King Street, a person came to the station to complain that her former boyfriend, the defendant of a protective order, came to her residence and will not leave, the officer reports he confirmed the protective order and confirmed that the man was prohibited from approaching the woman, Scott J. Consolini, 26, of 54 Riverside Drive, was arrested for violation of a protective order, during the booking process the suspect said that the woman had spent the last two nights at his home and that he went to her home at her request in response to a call from her, the man said that during the discussion she became upset and assaulted him before she complained to police;
2:49 p.m.: larceny, Main Street, a supermarket employee reports a shoplifter has been detained in the store, the responding officer reports that the caller said that the man had been seen concealing a Barbie doll, a book, a CD and Easter candy in his clothing and was detained when he attempted to leave without making payment, the man had been served a ‘No trespassing’ order in 2012 when he was accused of shoplifting then, Aaron C. Wright, 33, of 8 Cherry St., was arrested for shoplifting by asportation;
3:24 p.m.: disturbance, Apremont Way, a caller reports that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, the responding officer reports the caller said that she and her boyfriend had attempted to retrieve their dog from the animal shelter and she became embroiled in an argument with an animal control officer, the woman said that her boyfriend did not support her in the argument and said that she refused to get into his vehicle when they left, the woman said she was walking away and told the man that he wasn’t her man because “my man would have stuck up for me”, the woman said the man then stopped his truck and approached her from behind saying he was going to “kick her ass”, the woman said that she turned her back on him and he punched the back of her neck, the officer reports the man came to the station at his request and offered a similar account which did not include mention of punching the woman, Mark M. Rudy, 40, of 9 Myrtle Ave., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
8:25 p.m.: suspicious activity, Carpenter Avenue, a caller reports that persons have recently arrived at a vacant house nearby , the responding officer reports he spoke with the property owner who said that she had allowed her son to have a small gathering at the house with a fire, the officer reports the youths extinguished the fire;
9:20 p.m.: robbery, Bartlett Street, a caller reports a person was shot on Birge Avenue, see stories in the Sunday and Monday editions of The Westfield News;
10:58 p.m.: larceny, Avery Street, a caller reports a known person has stolen money from her purse, the responding officer reports the caller said that she had invited a man to her home and he was left alone for a few minutes while she was in another room, the woman said she heard the man knock her purse over and when she returned the man said he had to leave, the woman said that she subsequently found $40 missing from her purse, a criminal complaint was filed.
