WESTFIELD – It’s full steam ahead for the undefeated Westfield High School softball team.
Westfield rolled to its 12th straight victory with a convincing 7-1 win over visiting Chicopee Comp Thursday.
Senior pitcher Sarah McNerney tossed a two-hitter. The senior ace struck out seven batters, and walked one.
“She had a nice day,” Westfield coach Joe Stella said.
Several Bombers got into the scoring.
Westfield’s Karly Mastella blasted a bases-loaded triple to set the tone in the first inning. Rachel Swords went 3-for-3 with a double, one run, and two RBIs; Jesse Pratt was 2-for-2 with a triple, walk, and run scored; and, Kaitlyn Puza finished 2-for-4 with a run.
Lexi Minicucci (run, RBI), Vicky Camp (run, RBI), and Jules Sharon (run) also had one hit apiece for the Bombers.
Said coach Stella: “Again, we move on.”

Papineau propels Saints
BOYS’ LACROSSE
St. Mary 11, Holyoke Catholic 4
WESTFIELD – Corey Papineau had a hand in 10 of 11 goals to nearly single-handedly propel St. Mary to victory Thursday at Boardman Field.
Papineau scored six goals and had four assists, and teammate Tim Mercer finished with three goals and two assists.
Padraig Smith (2 assists), Zack Giard (1 goal), Mike Mulhall (1 goal), and Andrew Gearing (1 assist) also contributed for St. Mary.
Saints’ goalie Peter Demos had 11 saves.

Colts sweep Bombers

Chicopee Comp def. Westfield 25-18, 26-24, 25-12
CHICOPEE – Manny Golob (6 kills, 1 ace, 1 block), Chris Paradis (18 assists), and Ivan Zuev (16 digs) led Westfield.
The Bombers fell to 6-4 overall, 2-3 league.
