SPRINGFIELD – Tevin Cintron won the 800 meters, Zack Delisle won the pole vault, and the Westfield State men’s track and field team used it’s depth to advantage as the Owls placed second at the Maroon and White Invitational meet at the Springfield College field house on Saturday.
Delisle cleared 4.40 Meters (14′ 5-1/4″) in winning the pole vault by a full foot more than his closest competitor.
Cintron claimed the 800 meter crown in 2:04.35, nosing out teammate Connor Gotzman at the wire by 33/100ths of a second.
The Owls 4×400 relay team was also a winner.
Depth was a factor as the Owls had three runners score points in the 60, the 600, the 800, the mile and had four athletes (Derik Noland, Yuta Suzuki, Tim Forrest and Pat Burns) score in the mile.
Ed Perez was a strong second in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.61 seconds. Matt Moussamih (600) Dereck Stone (long jump) and Jacob Clements (high jump) also earned second place finishes for the Owls.
The Owls scored 146 points in finishing second. Worcester State won the meet with a total of 183.50.
Westfield will return to Springfield College next Saturday for another invitational meet.
