No overturning this one: White’s our winner

‘Tis the season … for more controversy.
This NFL season sure has had its fair share of controversial reversals, nearly all of which have gone in favor of the New England Patriots.
From the overturned touchdown of Jets tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins to those of Steelers tight end Jesse James and Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin – the latter two in consecutive weeks of all things – the Patriots have been the beneficiary of the officials’ discretionary decisions based on instant replay.
It kind of feels like the “Tuck Rule” all over again. Are the Patriots charmed again? We are soon about to find out.
On Sunday, the Patriots locked up a first-round bye. With a win this Sunday against the New York Jets (or a loss by Pittsburgh), New England will have secured the top seed in the American Football Conference.
While several teams jockey for playoff berths and positioning in the postseason in the final week of the regular season, contestants of our “Beat ‘The Putz’” pro football contest will have one more chance at winning a gift certificate to The Tavern Restaurant and competing for a flat-screen television, courtesy of Manny’s TV & Appliances.
Congratulations to Vicki White, of Westfield for posting an unbeaten record of 14-0. White, who also won way back in Week 2, easily bested my 10-4 mark. There’s no overturning that one.
