PALMER – The Westfield Technical Academy High School softball team may not be headed to the postseason, but the Tigers sure did have a blast in their final game of the 2017 regular season.
Junior Cheyenne Slack hit for the cycle (single, double, triple, home run), and the Westfield Tech Tigers outslugged the Pathfinder Pioneers on the road, 31-14.
Slack led off her first at-bat with a three-run homer as Westfield Tech jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. The Westfield junior scored four runs and had eight RBIs.
“What a great way to end the season,” Westfield Tech coach Deborah Falcetti said.
Westfield Tech senior Lexi Doiron had three hits and two RBIs, and juniors Emily Dorval and Leilani Marsh each also had three hits.
NOTES: The regular season will conclude for four more local high school varsity teams Friday. On the baseball diamond, St. Mary travels to Hampshire to take on the Red Raiders and Southwick hosts West Springfield at Whalley Park. Gateway softball hosts McCann Tech and Westfield welcomes Minnechaug to town. All games begin at 4 p.m.
