WESTFIELD – Freshman forward Dan McGinnis tallied a goal and assist in the second period as Curry College defeated Westfield State University in a non-conference ice hockey game on Thursday, Nov. 7.
Curry (1-1) snapped a 1-1 tie with two second-period goals. McGinnis scored 14:01 into the period to give the Colonels a 2-1 lead, then assisted on Ryan Gay’s goal four minutes later.
Westfield (0-3) cut the lead to one, 3-2, on a power play goal by freshman Jackson Leef with 8:13 left in the game, but Curry controlled the action for its first victory of the season.
The Owls took a 1-0 lead 1:36 into the game when freshman Jake Goldberg scored off a rebound. The Colonels knotted the score 5:59 into the first stanza on a Tyler Vankleef goal.
Curry outshot Westfield, 43-30, including a 32-18 advantage in the final two period.

Tuesday, November 5
Assumption 4, Westfield State 3

SPRINGFIELD – Assumption College scored two power play goals in the second period to snap a 2-2 tie and held on for a 4-3 victory over Westfield State University in a non-conference men’s ice hockey game on Tuesday.
Assumption (1-1) took a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Brandon Bete and Nick Matiello. Westfield (0-2) cut the lead in half with eight seconds remaining in the first stanza on a goal by captain Vince Perreault.
The Owls tied the score 6:49 into the second period on a short handed goal from Dave O’Connor. But Assumption took advantage of a Westfield game misconduct penalty midway through the second stanza to score two power play goals from Joe Arcieri and Alex Erban to take a 4-2 lead.
Westfield made the score 4-3 with 6:47 remaining in the game on a power play goal by Kyllian Kirkwood. The Owls had a power play opportunity in the game’s final 1:20 but was unable to light the lamp as the Greyhounds held on for the road victory.
Westfield outshot Assumption, 42-26, and Greyhound goalie Bobby Bowden of Springfield was solid between the pipes with 39 saves.
