WESTFIELD – Jauch Green,Jr. (Hartford, Conn./Cromwell) scored 24 points and Malik Pouncy (Mattapan, Mass./Springfield Commonwealth Acad.) added 20 as Westfield State ran out to a big halftime lead en route to a 92-71 win over Pine Manor College in a non-conference men’s basketball game at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.
Westfield (6-3) won its fourth straight game. The Owls led 48-32 at the half and held the Gators at a safe distance throughout the second half.
Green finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Pouncy had one of his best games as an Owl, with 20 points on 8-13 shooting, 4-7 from long range and nine assists. Marcus Collins (Cambridge, Mass./Rindge and Latin) added 13 points, giving him 983 as he creeps closer to the 1,000 point mark for his four-year playing career at Westfield.
The Owls forced 26 turnovers from the Gators, and held a 24-4 advantage in fast-break points.
Pine Manor slips to 2-7 overall. Sayvonn Houston (Brockton, Mass.) led the Gators with 22 points and five rebounds. Jalen Bruce (Springfield, Mass./Putnam) added 17 points and grabbed five boards as well.
