WESTFIELD – Westfield State swimmers won the first eight events of the meet as the Owls celebrated senior night at the Ely Pool on Monday night, defeating Western Connecticut State by a 105-86 score.
The Owls shared the wealth as six different swimmers earned wins, including Megan Coughlin in the 200 freestyle Monique Groux in 1-meter diving, Alex Frazier in the 50 yard backstroke, Tia Pariseau in the 50 breast, Haylee McQuay in the 100 butterfly, and Anna Boucher in the 50 freestyle.
Frazier, Pariseau, McQuay and Boucher teamed to win the 200-medley relay to open the meet.
Western Connecticut finally cracked the Owls event win streak when Sarah Basile won the 100 freestyle in 1:03.67.
With a comfortable lead, Westfield swam a number of swimmers in exhibition races and Alexa Collins and Annalise Alfieri picked up wins in the 100 back an 50 fly.
Westfield State improves to 5-3 in dual meets this season. The Owls posted their 29th season with a dual meet record of .500 or better in the last 30 years. The Owls honored their four seniors before the meet: Jenny Keane, Haylee McQuay and Alana Sullivan.
The meet had been rescheduled from Saturday as the winter storm prevented Western Connecticut from traveling.
The Colonials fall to 2-7. Both teams will be in action next Saturday at the Little East Conference Championship meet at UMass-Dartmouth.
