Owls’ Taylor digs 2000

WESTFIELD – Westfield State senior Lizzie Taylor (Medfield) recorded her 2,000th career dig as the Owls played in a tri-match at Keene State on Saturday afternoon.
Westfield fell to Western Connecticut, 3-2 with game scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 20-25 and 11-15, and host Keene State 3-0, with scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 26-24.
The Owls are now 9-8 overall on the season.
Against Western, Shawna Crowley (Billerica) led Westfield with 10 kills. Brianna Starkey (Rockland) added nine. Taylor totaled 21 digs, and finished with five assists and three aces, while Ally Rega (Chelmsford) set 30 assists for the Owls.
Against Keene, Taylor finished with 21 digs in the match. Already the Owls’ all-time leader, she now has 2,002 career digs. Entering the weekend, Taylor ranked sixth among active NCAA Division III players in career digs.
Shawna Crowley again led the Owls with nine kills, while Olivia Elie (Rockland) added eight.
Westfield will be back in action on Tuesday evening at the Woodward Center, hosting Amherst in the final regular-season home match for the Owls, which will double as Senior Night.
