NORTHAMPTON – Westfield State won its sixth straight game since returning from Florida as the Owls posted an 11-7 win over Smith College in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon
Westfield was led by three goals from Marissa Nimeskern and got two apiece from Rachel Testa and Hunter Zackaricz.
Westfield scored the final three goals of the first half, with Testa wrapping a pair of goals around a Nimeskern marker to take a 6-3 lead at the half.
17:47 to play, but Westfield answered with a goal from Alexa Tonelli, which proved to be the game winner, just 36 seconds later.
Westfield held a 33-15 advantage in shots on goal in the game, with Smith goalkeeper Sarah Price coming up with 22 saves. Westfield split the game between goalies Mimi Khampaeng and Julia Hoggins.
Westfield improves to 7-3 on the season. The Owls will get back to conference play on Saturday, hosting Fitchburg State at noon. Smith falls to 4-6 with the loss. – Courtesy of Westfield State Sports
