Owls’ women win XC title

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University women’s cross country team captured the championship of the Western New England Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday morning.
Westfield won the title in the 23-team meet with 41 points, followed by Salve Regina (64) and Roger Williams (136).
The Owls placed four runners in the top nine, led by sophomore Amy Trainque, who finished third with a time of 19:14.44 on the 5,000 meters course.
Babson sophomore Marina Capalbo finished first in 19:02 and Rhode Island College freshman Jaimee Dorsey was second in 19:04.62.
Westfield’s other top runners were: senior Rachael Cardin (5th), freshman Ashlynne Xiarhos (7th), and freshman Abby Monette (9th).
