BIDDEFORD, MAINE – Westfield State junior Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass. / Southwick) scored the tying goal in the 60th minute to secure a 1-1 tie with the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The University of New England struck first off the foot of senior Katie Beaudoin early on in the tenth minute.
After the Nor’easter goal, play went back and fourth, with the Owls dumping shots on goalkeeper Jenna Pannone who made a whopping ten saves in the contest for UNE. Owl keeper Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) played equally as well, making four saves of her own.
Kinsman would put an end to the scoring drought in the 60th minute, as her shot sailed past Pannone to even the game at one.
The game shifted to overtime, and then double overtime, as the Nor’easters had a chance to win it in the final seconds, but were denied by Westfield State goalkeeper Lauryn Davis who saved a shot from the top of the box to keep the game knotted at one.
With the draw, the Owls move to 1-2-1 on the season, while UNE moves to 1-0-2.
