Earlier this season, I admitted tuning out the New England Patriots when they fell behind the New Orleans Saints, and looked dead in the water.
Like one of several fans exiting the stadium early, I missed one of the greatest comebacks in quarterback Tom Brady’s celebrated career. I was embarrassed for my pessimistic attitude. (For someone who grew up in Red Sox nation prior to reversing the curse, I should be allowed a bit of leeway for this faux pas.)
I promised not to make that mistake again.
Flash forward to last Sunday night when the Patriots fell behind by 24 points. With some personal responsibilities to handle, I was unable to watch what would soon become the greatest comeback in team history.
I was glued to my TV set early in the game, watching the brutal cold slap the Patriots across the face with fumble after fumble. Denver surged into the early lead. I had to leave … and missed the sensational Patriotic rally.
So, being slightly superstitious, I’m now thinking I may be a jinx to my favorite team. Maybe, just maybe my negative vibes are sucking the life out of the players on the gridiron. Like that dejected football fanatic in one of those new beer commercials, I feel I must slink away to a dark basement somewhere during games, so I can no longer doom the Patriots.
Just a thought…
In Week 12, I managed to compile a record of 7-5. Tom Perry, of Westfield won the weekly prize at 10-2. Congratulations!
Week 13 offers a challenging slate of games such as Tennessee-Indy, Miami-New York Jets, Arizona-Philly, St. Louis-San Fran, Denver-Kansas City, and Cincinnati-San Diego. The Patriots travel to Houston to take on the lowly 2-9 Texans.
Our Sunday night tiebreaker game is the New York Giants at Washington.
