WESTFIELD – A city woman may have suffered serious injury when she was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing Notre Dame Street early Friday morning.
Sgt. Robert Saunders, the commander of the police department’s Traffic Bureau, said Friday afternoon that a 71-year-old woman was crossing Notre Dame Street on her way to work at 6:40 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle operated by a 54-year-old Westfield man who was traveling westbound.
Unconfirmed witness reports suggest that the woman was seriously injured but Saunders could say only that she was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center.
He said that the accident remains under investigation by State Police with assistance from the officers of the city’s Traffic Bureau.
