“Susan Allen has done evening presentations on a variety of financial issues at the Westfield Senior Center each June to widespread acclaim,” said Tina Gorman, executive director, Westfield Council on Aging. “With the senior center closed for the foreseeable future, a televised presentation will provide viewers with current information on navigating retirement and retirement planning during the COVID pandemic.”

During the past few months, the Westfield Council on Aging Presents series on Channel 15 has featured topics on legal matters, strategies for overcoming sadness and mild depression, and healthy nutrition. Harry Rock, former chair of the Westfield 350th Committee and board member for the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center, serves as host.

“The recent topics have had a focus on the pandemic,” said Gorman.

Allen, whose business is based in Southwick, has been employed over the years at area banks, brokerages and insurance firms. She is licensed as a financial planner for Massachusetts and Connecticut.

“I have been in financial services for over 20 years,” said Allen, adding, “approximately 10 years ago I decided to work independently with a focus on retirement income planning using safe solutions.”

Allen also specializes in assisting parents and students with college financial planning.

“During these challenging and unpredictable times, it’s important for people to keep the focus on their financial goals, re-evaluate their budget, reduce expenses, and continue to grow their money, with as less risk as possible,” she said.

One of several topics Allen said she will address are the “many changes to retirement distributions this year as far as requirements and accessibility.”

Gorman added that adults of all ages are encouraged to tune in to Allen’s presentation.

“Susan will help listeners to navigate the retirement maze during these unprecedented pandemic times,” said Gorman.
