9:05 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Miller Street, a DPW representative requests assistance with vehicles parked in violation of the snow emergency parking ban, a car was towed to the police impound yard;
11:30 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, a man brought a beagle dog to the shelter which had reportedly been found running loose on Route 20;
11:35 a.m.: assist resident, Putnam Drive, a person came to the station to report that her friend was charged $900 to have snow removed from her roof, the responding officer reports he spoke with the contractor what said that he charges by the square foot for snow removal and said that the $900 he collected from the resident in question reflected a 10 percent senior discount, he said that he would return to the Putman Drive address and rebate the customer $100, the officer reports he made inquiries and found that the prevailing price to clear an average roof is $500, the officer found, however, that the contractor had quoted his rates before he started work and his clients had agreed to pay them;
12:30 p.m.: animal complaint, Southwood Acres, 342 Southwick Road, an animal control officer reports she attempted to take custody of a medium-sized brown dog which had reportedly been roaming in the area for the past two days, the ACO reports the fearful dog would not let her approach, the ACO subsequently set a trap for the dog but was not immediately successful, the trap was closed after dark to insure that no animals became trapped overnight and it was reset Friday morning;
3:05 p.m.: city ordinance violation, South Maple Street, a caller reports sidewalks adjacent to an apartment building are not cleared, the responding officer reports he spoke with a representative of the property manager who said a crew was scheduled to clear snow on Friday;
4:34 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Orange Street at Maple Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
5:29 p.m.: arrest, Riverdale Street, West Springfield, a detective reports the State Police fugitive apprehension team took custody of the subject of an outstanding warrant in West Springfield and city officers traveled to that city to take the man into their custody, Christopher M. Cruz, 42, of 13 Denette St., Chicopee, was arrested on the warrant;
8:08 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to be operated by the owner whose license was found to be suspended, the car was towed to the police impound yard and a criminal complaint was filed;
8:13 p.m.: suspicious person, East Silver Street, a caller from a supermarket reports a man is believed to be “huffing” in the bathroom and does not respond to inquiries although he can be heard moving, blood was seen on the floor, dual response dispatched, the man was transported to Baystate Medical Center by Westfield Fire Department ambulance where he was treated and released.
