Friday, July 5, 2013
6:47 a.m.: attempted breaking and entering, Kasper Drive, a caller reports that someone tried to break into her shed overnight and also stole roses outside the shed, the responding officer reports it appears that an unsuccessful attempt was made to remove items from the shed, the caller said that several blooms were found to be missing from her rose bushes and said that neighbors have suffered similar depredations;
8:22 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Pontoosic Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
9:23 a.m.: Willow Brook Lane, a caller requests an officer to assist as he gathers property described in a court order from his former residence, the responding officer reports the man and his former wife were in disagreement about some of the items and were advised to consult the court and their lawyers;
10:15 a.m.: larceny, Woodmont Street, a resident came to the station to report a larceny, the responding officer reports the complaint said that an iPod valued at $1,000 was last seen on Wednesday and may have been stolen during a Fourth of July party on Thursday, the man said that his son told him that a friend had been alone briefly in the room where the device was last seen, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
10:57 a.m.: larceny, City View Road, a resident came to the station to report a possible larceny, the responding officer reports the complaint said that he can’t find a camera and four lenses as well as gold rings, the man said that that the items have not been seen for as long as a year and he suspects they were stolen by a family member who had watched the house during his absence, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
1:00 p.m.: assist other agency, Noble Hospital, a caller requests police assistance with an unruly patient, the responding officer reports a Taser was deployed but the man continued to struggle until a second impulse was applied;
4:39 p.m.: larceny, Oakwood Terrace Apartments, 200 Southwick Road, a resident came to the station to report a larceny, the responding officer reports the caller said that property including brand new clothing which still had tags attached and a gold and diamond ring had been stolen, the woman said that she believes a male party she has allowed to stay at her residence for the past few weeks took the clothing and returned it for a refund and stole the ring, the woman said that the man denied stealing the items when she confronted him, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
6:34 p.m.: traffic complaint, Neck Road, a patrol officer reports the railroad crossing barriers are down on Neck Road although there are no signs of a train, CSX was notified;
8:11 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Middle School North, a caller reports a deer is stuck inside a fenced area on the school’s fields, the responding officer reports the deer jumped the fence and left the area;
8:34 p.m.: animal complaint, Joseph Avenue, a caller reports he has taken custody of a stray dog, the responding animal control officer reports the dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
10:14 p.m.: fireworks complaint, Jaeger Drive, a caller reports fireworks in the area, the responding officer reports he observed where the fireworks originated but they were all expended when he reached the address, the resident was advised of the pertinent regulations and possible repercussions, police also responded to fireworks complaints on West Road and Fowler Avenue but could not identify a responsible party;

12:24 a.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a caller reports a person at a gas station and convenience store has a firearm and also reports another male party is beating a female, the first responding officer reports the firearm was secured in his cruiser, the officer reports the man with the gun said that he had seen a male party punching a female party and told him to stop, he said that he identified himself as a representative of the sheriff and said that when the man stopped hitting the woman he approached him in a threatening manner and the Good Samaritan then produced his pistol and ordered the man to the ground, when the man was on the ground the woman began to be verbally assaultive and while he was dealing with her the man got up and walked into the store, a supervisory officer reports the man with the gun had a valid license to carry on his person, Bobby Lopez, 26, of 14 Carew St., Springfield, was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct, the female party was provided a courtesy transport to a Union Street address;
1:21 a.m.: noise complaint, Chapel Street, an anonymous caller reports a loud party, the responding officer reports the tenant had about 25 guests whom he dispersed, the officer reports the resident was advised of the possible consequences of another complaint;
8:36 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Crown Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
8:58 a.m.: larceny, Sycamore Apartments, 14 Sycamore St., a caller reports his son’s bicycle was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that the bike had been stolen from his yard overnight;
10:35 a.m.: found property, Summer Street, a person came to the station to surrender a wallet found on Summer Street, the responding officer reports three attempts to return the wallet to its owner were unsuccessful and the wallet was held for safe keeping;
1:35 p.m.: recreational vehicle complaint, Char Drive, officers request tows for two recreational vehicles which were transported to the police impound yard;
3:06 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed two known persons drinking a beer at a Main Street bus stop, city ordinance violation citations were issued;
3:16 p.m.: suspicious persons, Tin Bridge, Ponders Hollow Road, a patrol officer reports he located two cars occupied by three Mexican nationals none of whom had identification, the officer reports the men were found to be tobacco workers and were released to the farm owner, the officer reports the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency will be notified as the workers said that they were in the country illegally;
7:51 p.m.: incapacitated person, Oaks Trailer Park, 404 Southwick Road, a call reports an intoxicated person is making a nuisance of himself, the responding officer reports the man was obviously intoxicated and was served a ‘No trespassing’ order, the man was placed in protective custody;
8:55 p.m.: fireworks complaints, Granville, Northridge and Fowler roads, callers report fireworks complaints, the responding officers report no suspects were found;
9:42 p.m.: disturbance, Saunder Street, multiple callers report a father is fighting with his intoxicated adult son, the responding officer reports the family members said they cannot control the intoxicated man and he was placed in protective custody;
10:11 p.m.: accident, West Silver Street, a patrol officer requests an ambulance for a bicyclist who struck a curb, went over his handlebars and struck his head, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet, the man was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was admitted for treatment and subsequently discharged;

12:24 a.m.: incapacitated person, Whitney Playground, Shepard Street, a patrol officer reports finding a man lying on the ground, the man was transported to the station and the officer attempted to find accommodations for him until he became combative and kicked the officer, Jacob. H. Stiles, 22, of 192 Abbot Hill Road, Chester, was arrested for assault and battery on a police officer;
1:27 a.m.: accident, Elm Street, an officer requests an ambulance for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, the operator and witnesses report that the woman ran in front of the vehicle, the woman was transported to Baystate Medical Center where she was admitted for treatment and reported to be in fair condition Monday afternoon;
3:35 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Half Mile Falls Park, two person were seen in the park, the responding officer reports both parties were advised that the park closes at 10:30 p.m. and left the area without incident;
7:47 a.m.: larceny, Stanley Park, 400 Western Avenue, a representative of the park reports a sign was stolen and property was vandalized, the responding officer reports the Stanly Park sign was recovered, a security light had been vandalized;
2:14 p.m.: vandalism, Twin Pines Drive, a caller reports vandalism at her home, the responding officer reports the caller said that a vehicle drove across her lawn and struck a satellite antenna;
3:01 p.m.: larceny, Mullen Avenue, a caller reports her air conditioner was stolen, the responding officer reports the woman said that she believes a relative who also lives in the residence stole the air conditioner, see 4:56 p.m. call;
3:20 p.m.: breaking and entering, Main Street, a caller reports she was away from her home for a couple of hours and returned to find her television had been stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that a window was broken to gain access, the woman said she believes a former boyfriend is responsible;
4:56 p.m.: arrest, Mullen Avenue, a caller reports a family member believed to be responsible for larceny has returned to the house, the caller also said that the woman is the subject of an outstanding warrant, the warrant was confirmed, Angela Wheatley, 26, of 42 Mullen Ave., was arrested on the warrant;
7:18 p.m.: officer wanted, Oaks Trailer Park, 404 Southwick Road, a caller reports a person recently served with a ‘No trespassing’ order has returned and is creating a disturbance, the responding officer reports Wesley J. Kerr, 47, of no fixed address, was arrested for trespass.
