10:35 a.m.: fire, Frederick Street, a caller reports smoke coming from the first floor of the house, the responding officer reports he arrived and found that all the residents were all outside, the officer reports he went inside and found smoke coming out of an open stove, the officer closed the door to the stove and turned it off, the firefighters report that items stored in the stove were not removed before it was turned on and a plastic bowl melted and a wooden rack ignited making smoke, the smoke was ventilated and firefighters found there were no smoke or carbon monoxide detectors in the house, the landlord was advised to install appropriate detectors and call the fire department for an inspection within five days;
1:00 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports a female Boston terrier dog was surrendered;
1:15 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Animal Shelter, 178 Apremont Way, the director of animal control operations reports a female Brittany spaniel dog was surrendered;
1:33 p.m.: assist citizen, Hampden Street at Jefferson Street, a caller reports he accidentally locked his child inside his vehicle, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
1:58 p.m.: fraud, a resident came to the station to report credit card fraud, the responding officer reports a resident came to the station to report that an attempt was made to use her credit card to buy a computer at a Walmart store in California;
2:05 p.m.: fraud, a resident came to the station to report credit card fraud, the responding officer reports a resident came to the station to report that he was notified that a store credit card had been issued in his name on Thursday and on Friday merchandise valued at more than $900 was purchased, the complainant reports the informed the store that he had not opened the account and both the order and the account were cancelled;
5:44 p.m.: rescue, Great River Bridge, North Elm Street, a caller reports kayaks have overturned in the river, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
7:22 p.m.: disturbance, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a caller reports a disturbance with a neighbor, the responding officer reports the caller said that a juvenile neighbor became upset with her due to perceived shortcomings in her parenting skills and went inside and got a meat cleaver which he waved but did not threaten her with before taking it back inside, the officer reports the youth was holding a brick upon his arrival, the officer found that the boy is challenged and he was transported to Noble Hospital;
7:54 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Maple Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to be unregistered due to lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
8:09 p.m.: suspicious person, Ponders Hollow Road, an ambulance crew reports they were flagged down by a person who alerted them to a vehicle with operator slumped over the wheel, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the sole occupant of the running vehicle was found to have a license revoked due to previous convictions for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, William A. James, 49, of 129 Root Road, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as an habitual traffic offender;

12:15 a.m.: disturbance, Court Street, a caller reports neighbors are fighting, the responding officer reports he detected an odor of pepper spray as he approached the apartment where the disturbance was reported and he spoke with a female party who said that the male party had left, the woman said that her former boyfriend had asked to retrieve his cat which had been left in the apartment when he moved out after their breakup, the woman said she allowed him to come but an argument developed and he put her in a bear hug and she bit him to escape, the woman said that after they separated they went to the door of her apartment but she refused to let him in and when he attempted to insist she sprayed him with pepper spray, the officer reports that staff at the hospital called to report a patient who was being treated for the effects of pepper spray asked that they call police, the officer reports the man said that when the argument developed the woman started swinging at him and he grabbed her to make her stop hitting him and was bitten, the man said that when she calmed down she agreed to let him have his cat but when they got to the door of the apartment the woman sprayed him with the chemical irritant for no apparent reason, the officer reports he believes the female party to be the aggressor and a criminal complaint was filed;
2:08 a.m.: disturbance, Main Street, a caller reports 2-3 persons are fighting, the responding officer reports he arrived to find a larger man straddling a smaller man who was on the ground yelling obscenities, the two combatants were separated and told the officer that they had been drinking together earlier and an argument which developed after they left the bar morphed into a physical altercation when the driver dropped off the other party, both were subject to mood swings with cooperation intermixed with loud and belligerent behavior, William E. Thompson, 37, of 65 Glenwood Drive and Eric Daniel Sadler, 22, of 28 Brenda Dive, were each arrested for assault and battery and disorderly conduct;
3:17 a.m.: breaking and entering, Walmart, 141 Springfield Road, a caller reports that two persons have broken into a fenced construction area, the responding officer reports two bikes were found hidden among trailers and two boys were later found nearby, the 14-year-old boys were identified and surrendered to the custody of their parents, no charges were filed as the investigation is incomplete;
8:56 a.m.: motor vehicle theft, Montgomery Road, a resident came to the station to report a vehicle was stolen from his business property, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a dump truck which has not been registered or insured since 2008 was stolen, the complainant said that the vehicle was not locked but the keys were not in it, the man said that he suspects a relative stole the vehicle;
10:50 a.m.: disturbance, Washington House, 16 Washington St., a caller reports hearing yelling and screaming in a neighbor’s apartment, the responding officer reports he heard no yelling as he approached but did hear a small child, the officer reports there was no response to his knock and he tried the door and found it unlocked, the officer opened the door and announced himself and saw an unattended toddler, a male party entered the room and said that his children had been the cause of the noise reported and a female party gave the same account independently, the officer reports a neighbor told him that she had previously found the three-year-old child wandering in the hallway unattended on a previous occasion the Department of Children and Families was notified;
11:51 p.m.: harassment, Egleston Road, a resident came to the station to report she has been getting unwelcome text messages from a former boyfriend, the responding officer the woman said that she has received at least two text messages from a former boyfriend who tells her that he hopes she dies, the woman did not ask that police take any action but said she wanted the messages to be documented, the woman was advised to consult the domestic violence coordinator;
12:05 p.m.: animal complaint, Princeton Street, a letter carrier reports a large swarm of honey bees coming out of a tree on the tree belt, the responding firefighters there is a hive about 20 feet up in the tree, a beekeeper who has assisted with swarms and bee removal in the past was contacted, see photo in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
12:12 p.m.: suspicious plant, Woodmont Street, a call reports there is a plant on his property which he believes is a heroin plant, the responding officer reports he does not know what a poppy plant looks like nor does he know what the process is for making heroin, the officer reports the caller offered to destroy the plant and the officer had no objections;
1:06 p.m.: fire, Grand Street, a caller reports the smoke from a backyard fire is disturbing his peace, the responding firefighters report the resident was advised of the pertinent city ordinances and extinguished the fire;
3:54 p.m.: found property, Southampton Road, a caller reports another person found a wallet in the middle of Westfield Industrial Park Road, the responding officer reports the owner of the wallet could not be immediately contacted but a message was left for her, the wallet was held for safe keeping;
4:03 p.m.: disturbance, Shaker Road, a caller report that an elderly aunt came to her home and told her that her son tried to hit her with her cane, the responding officer reports he found an elderly woman in a garage who said that her son had locked her out of her home, the officer reports the man said that his mother frequently loses her keys and evaded answers by yelling at the officer and his mother, the officer reports he advised the woman of her protective order options;
4:45 p.m.: animal complaint, Toledo Avenue, a caller reports a stray dog followed her home, the responding animal control officer took custody of the dog;
5:20 p.m.: recreational vehicle complaint, Old Holyoke Road, a caller reports two young children are operating ATVs in the roadway without helmets, the responding officer reports he encountered an adult with two small children riding up and down the roadway without helmets, the man was advised of the pertinent laws which he claimed to be ignorant of because he is an immigrant,
6:00 p.m.: suspicious persons, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street store reports that a person appeared to be attempting to distract the clerk so a confederate could sever security cables to steal display items, the responding officer reports the suspects left the area before the clerk discovered packaging which had been tampered with, nothing appeared to have been stolen;
6:59 p.m.: well being check, Springfield Road, a caller reports two small children are unattended in a vehicle with blinkers, brake lights and windshield wipers activated, the responding officer reports he found a woman slumped over the wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot with an open cup of beer in the console and a four-year-old child in the vehicle, the officer reports the woman displayed the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication and said she did not know how she got to the parking lot, the child’s father came to take custody of the boy and his mother, the Department of Children and Families was notified;
7:54 p.m.: larceny, White Street, a caller reports her bicycle was stolen from her garage, the responding officer reports the caller said that the bike was last seen on Wednesday and sometime since then the unlocked garage was entered and the bike valued at $500 was stolen;
8:13 p.m.: fire, Mechanic Street, a caller reports smoke in the area, dual response dispatched, the responding firefighters report the man said he had been working on a lawn mower earlier and spilled some gas, the responding officer reports the man said that he believes matches he discarded trying to light his gas grill may have sparked the fire which he put out with a garden hose before the fire fighters arrived;
9:15 p.m.: fire, Franklin Avenue, a caller reports neighbors have a bonfire, again, the responding fire captain reports the bonfire was extinguished;

12:11 a.m.: accident, Bates Street, a caller reports a vehicle crashed into her parked truck and left the area, an officer reported shortly later he discovered a vehicle which had been struck on Pleasant Street, the operator said that a vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign on Pearl Street and struck his vehicle, the other operator was found nearby with a heavily damaged vehicle who acknowledged that he had struck the other vehicle, the offending vehicle fit the description of the car involved in the Bates Road crash, the man was very agitated and acknowledged that a bottle of liquor found in nearby bushes was his, the man failed a field sobriety test, Volodymyr V. Zhukovskyy , 17, of 90 New Bridge St., West Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor and for a stop sign violation;
9:36 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Mountain Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the operator’s license was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed and a criminal complaint was filed;
5:30 p.m.: fire, Russell Road, a call reports oil on the stove is burning, the responding firefighters report the resident had scattered cat litter on the grease fire before they arrived and they completed the extinguishment, the firefighters used a thermal imager to check for fire in the wall and ceiling and found none, minor damage was done near the stove which was a total loss;
7:18 p.m.: disturbance, Montgomery Street, a caller reports her child’s father came to her residence and was not welcome, the responding officer reports the caller said that her child’s father left the city about three months after the girl was born and has been incarcerated out-of-state for 15 years, the woman said an altercation developed when he was told that he will not be welcome in their life, the woman said that the man’s car door struck her in the stomach but the contact may have been accidental;
8:20 p.m.: assist motorist, Hampton Ponds State Park, a caller reports he has inadvertently been locked inside the controlled area of the state park, the responding officer reports he allowed two vehicles to depart from the park;
8:20 p.m.: lost property, East Main Street, a caller reports her daughter’s cell phone was lost, the responding officer reports the caller said that the phone had been misplaced in an East Main Street store and an on-line tracking feature indicated it to be at a Montgomery Road address, the officer reports the resident there said that he had found the phone in the store, the phone was surrendered and returned to the complainant;
11:12 p.m.: suspicious persons, skate park, West Silver Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered persons skateboarding in the skate park and advised them that the park is closed after dark, the persons left the area.
