3:59 a.m.: robbery, School Street, a caller reports she was robbed by two men, see story in the Monday edition of The Westfield News;
9:29 a.m.: breaking and entering, Sherman Street, a caller reports his garage was broken into and property was stolen overnight Sept. 25-26, the responding officer reports the caller said that he believes a side door was pried open to gain entry to the garage but the officer found no pry marks, the man said that a showblower and a cordless power drill were stolen and his insurance company had urged him to report the theft to police;
10:24 a.m.: animal complaint, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a person brought a strayed black Labrador retriever dog to the station, the director of animal control operations responded to take custody of the dog;
10:43 a.m.: incapacitated person, Kasper Drive, a caller reports an intoxicated visitor initially refused to leave and when he eventually did leave he stole a piggy bank, a responding officer reports he encountered the man nearby who tried to kick him when he took the intoxicated man into protective custody, the piggy bank was recovered;
12:30 p.m.: larceny, South Maple Street, a resident came to the station to report his vehicle’s registration plate has been stolen, the responding officer reports the man said that he did not know when the plate became missing and that he became aware of its absence the night before when he was stopped by police for operating without a rear registration plate;
3:10 p.m.: animal complaint, Pumpkin Lane, the animal control officer reports a black and brown male hound wearing a harness and leash running loose in the area of Pumpkin Lane was taken into custody and transported to the municipal animal shelter;
6:05 p.m.: larceny, Washington Street, a woman came to the station to complain that her iPad tablet computer was stolen, the responding officer reports that the woman said that she had left the tablet valued at about $200 in her boyfriend’s bedroom, the woman said that her boyfriend, his three roommates and neighbors live in what is known as a “college party house” and there had been a small party there since she last saw the tablet, the woman said that numerous people had been in the apartment;
6:32 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Holland Avenue, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
10:30 p.m.: larceny, Southampton Road, a caller reports his employer’s phone was taken by accident or design and a tracking feature indicates it is at a Southampton Road motel, the responding officer reports that the phone was found in the possession of a guest at the motel and recovered, the officer reports that the man may have accidentally picked up the phone when he gathered his possessions, the owner was satisfied to recover the phone and no criminal charges were sought;
11:49 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Chapel Street, auxiliary officers report they observed a vehicle pull out of a driveway on to Elm Street and accelerate southbound at a high rate of speed in the northbound lane, the officers stopped the vehicle which turned on to Chapel Street before it stopped, the operator initially denied drinking alcohol but after he failed a field sobriety test acknowledged he had consumed four or five beers in the past hour, Robert J. Corcoran, 31, of 12 Otis St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.
