12:38 a.m.: disturbance, Orange Street at Morris Avenue, a caller reports a group of persons is fighting, the responding officer reports he observed persons flee as he arrived and he spoke with a person who said he had been assaulted, the victim told the officer that he had been walking on Orange Street when he encountered group of persons who began yelling at him and one struck him with skateboard, the victim said that members of another group nearby observed the assault and came to his assistance, the victim identified a suspect and said that the incident appeared to be an extension of an earlier incident;
8:35 a.m.: larceny, East Mountain Road, a caller from an East Mountain Road business reports that he arrived at work to find that three large rolls of copper wire had been stolen since the company closed the day before, the responding officer reports the plant manager said that two wheelbarrows were also taken and his staff followed the wheelbarrow tracks to a wooded area about a half mile away where the wheelbarrows loaded with the copper wire were found and recovered;
9:48 a.m.: identity fraud, Edgewood Apartments, 134 Union St., a resident came to the station to report she may be the victim of identity fraud, the responding officer reports that the woman said that she recently moved back to the area but when she attempted to open a utilities account she was told that a previous account was more than $1,000 in arrears, the woman said that that she had never previously opened an account and had been in another state when service was provided to the suspect account, the woman told the officer that the service had been provided to a address where her mother once lived;
10:49 a.m.: animal complaint, Woodcliff Drive, a caller reports she has video evidence of a dog defecating on her property, the responding animal control officer reports the woman was invited to come to the shelter to complete a complaint form so the animal control department can take action;
11:17 a.m.: animal complaint, Russell Road, , a caller reports he has detained a yellow Labrador retriever which was running loose on Russell Road, the animal control officer reports she took custody of the dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
12:05 p.m.: motor vehicle theft, Murphy Circle, a detective investigating the theft of a motor scooter reports he found that a neighbor of the victim also had a motor scooter stolen, the detective reports his investigation is ongoing;
1:11 p.m.: narcotics violation, Spring Street , a community policing officer reports he was advised by a Spring Street landlord that a bag of heroin was found at one of his properties, the CP officer reports he took custody of the contraband;
1:58 p.m.: assist city employee, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., an officer reports keys are locked inside a police cruiser, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
2:41 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Court Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the registration plates had been cancelled, the plates were seized, the car was towed to the police impound yard and the operator and her son were provided a courtesy transport to a Wilson Avenue address;
2:55 p.m.: vandalism, Robinson Drive, a resident came to the station to complain that her car was deliberately damaged, the responding officer reports the complainant said that overnight the rear bumper of her car had been pulled away from the body of the vehicle;
8:53 p.m.: incapacitated person, Bullens Field, King Street Extension, a detail officer at a high school football game reports a female student was found to be intoxicated, the girl’s grandmother was notified and came to take custody of the girl;
9:17 p.m.: domestic disturbance, Lindbergh Boulevard, a caller reports her mother-in-law is intoxicated, not welcome and refuses to leave, the responding officer reports he found the woman to be too intoxicated to care for herself and nobody was found to care for her, the woman was placed in protective custody;
9:23 p.m.: officer wanted, Bullens Field, King Street Extension, a detail officer at a high school football game reports a school official asked him to assist in the examination of a backpack, the officer reports that the subject’s backpack was found to contain a white powdery substance;
10:46 p.m.: liquor law violation, Washington Street, a community policing officer reports a liquor law violation was found and a city ordinance violation citation was issued, addition citations for similar violations were issued at 1:11 p.m. and 11:23 p.m.;
11:37 p.m.: disturbance, Mechanic Street, a caller reports a large party in the area, the responding officer reports about 85 college aged youths were dispersed by the tenants with assistance from police.
