Monday, April 8, 2013
2:00 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without headlights and stopped the SUV, the officer reports the operator appeared to be intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test, Scott D. Dana Jr., 32, of 73A Worthington St., Huntington, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and for a motor vehicle lights violation;
12:09 p.m.: harassment, Carol Circle, a resident came to the station to report that he is being harassed via phone at his home and workplace by a person who claims that the caller owes him money, the officer reports he was unable to immediately contact the suspect;
12:54 p.m.: breaking and entering, Frederick Street, a resident came to the station to report that her residence was broken into and she believes her former boyfriend is responsible, the responding officer reports the caller said that the door had been damaged when the intruder entered her residence and she suspects that her former boyfriend is responsible because the property missing, including a 52 inch television, belongs to him, the woman said that if the intruder was in fact her former boyfriend no action is necessary;
4:51 p.m.: found property, Western Circle, a resident came to the station to report that a registration plate reported to be stolen April 4 was found while raking leaves;
5:17 p.m.: larceny, Mechanic Street, a resident came to the station to complain of a larceny from his yard, the responding officer reports the complainant said that the shell of the front end of a car was stolen from his yard about two weeks earlier;
5:41 p.m.: notification, Mechanic Street, a community policing officer reports he spoke with college-aged residents at 8 Mechanic Street addresses to remind them of the behavior expected of them during the upcoming Spring Weekend;
9:27 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the vehicle was towed;
9:54 p.m.: fire, Western Avenue, Westfield State University police reports a brush fire near the south parking lot is burning and may endanger woods, the responding firefighters report a large brush pile was burning and WSU police said that they suspect the brush piled up by WSU ground keepers was ignited by students, the fire was extinguished and firefighters were told that a bucket loader would be used to turn over and bury the brush;

1:38 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Chapel Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed and stopped the vehicle, a check reveled that the operator’s license had been suspended as an habitual traffic offender and that he was the subject of an outstanding warrant, Dave Gullett III, 45, of 36 Reservoir Road, Southwick, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as an habitual traffic offender, failure to stop for police, speeding in violation of special regulation, and on a warrant, a city ordinance violation citation for possession of marijuana was issued;
3:30 a.m.: found property, Franklin Street, a patrol officer reports he found a backpack at a Franklin Street address, the officer reports the owner was identified by the contents of the backpack and he was advised that the backpack would be held at the station for safe keeping;
12:43 p.m.: assist citizen, a caller requests an officer to assist as she collects her vehicle from a former address, the responding officer reports he confirmed that the calling party owned the vehicle which she took custody of without incident;
4:13 p.m.: fire, North Road, a caller reports a brush fire in the Hampton Ponds area, the responding firefighters report a small patch of grass was found to be burning and was extinguished;
4:20 p.m.: animal complaint, Bartlett Street, a caller reports taking custody of a female white shih tzu dog with a pink collar and will wait for an animal control officer to respond;
6:40 p.m.: arrest, Greylock Street, a patrol officer reports a routine check of a vehicle operating on Greylock Street revealed that the owner was the subject of an outstanding warrant, the vehicle was stopped and Ericka L. Mulvenna, 17, of 200 Southwick Road, was arrested on the warrant;
6:59 p.m.: fire, Orange Street, a caller reports a brush fire in the area of Orange and Sackett streets, the responding fire captain reports that after he advised the homeowner of the pertinent city ordinances the man extinguished his fire;
6:59 p.m.: officer wanted, Day Avenue, a resident came to the station to report that she cannot find guns which had been owned by her recently-deceased husband, the responding officer reports that the caller said that her husband may have sold or otherwise disposed of the guns without her knowledge;
8:13 p.m.: assault, Main Street, a caller reports she was assaulted by a known party, the responding office reports that a schoolmate punched her face inside a supermarket, the complainant was advised that she could seek a criminal complaint at Westfield District Court;
9:26 p.m.: disturbance, Clark Street, a caller reports an overly loud college-aged party, the responding officer reports about 20 persons were dispersed and the two tenants were issued city ordinance violation citations for being persons younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor;
10:30 p.m.: arrest, Orange Street, detectives report that pursuant to an ongoing investigation a search warrant was executed, the detectives report more than ten pounds of marijuana packaged for sale with a street value of about $32,000 was seized along with scales and other paraphernalia, Savier R. Cosme, 20, and Jose L. Cosme, 22, both of 41 Orange Street, were each arrested for possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute.
