Post 124 suffers first defeat

LUDLOW – Ludlow Post 52 scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and hand Westfield its first loss of the season in American Legion baseball. Post 124 (5-1) lost 4-2.
Westfield bounced back from a 2-0 deficit with one run in each of the third and fifth innings, courtesy of two run-scoring singles from Ryan Tettemer (2-for-3).
Cam Robitaille, Nate Barnes, and Matt Irzyk had the only other hits for Post 124.
It was Westfield’s first loss in the culmination of a six-day stretch which began with five straight victories.
“Six games in six days caught up to us,” Westfield coach Don Irzyk said. “The high school state semifinals were on Wednesday. Then those kids had a day off. I know all of our players weren’t on that (Westfield High) team. But six days straight – that’s asking a lot.”
“Coming out 5-1 is pretty good,” he said.
Westfield next plays Palmer Friday at Westfield State University, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
