WESTFIELD – The final week of preseason practices began Monday in the Greater Westfield area – and all over Western Massachusetts, for that matter – in the midst of a full-blown, late-summer heat wave.
Field hockey players ran through drills, goalies batted away saves, soccer players conditioned themselves for the elements and the speed of the game, and football players prepared for opening day.
Three featured scrimmages, involving teams at Westfield High School will take place this week.
The Westfield High School boys soccer team travels to Huntington to take on the Gateway Gators Wednesday at 4 p.m. On Friday, Westfield football hosts Putnam at Bullens Field at 6:30 p.m. Bombers’ girls soccer plays at Medway Saturday. The game begins at Hanlon Field at 9:30 a.m.
The regular season begins Tuesday with a full slate of games. Stay up-to-date with the latest schedule and standings all season online at our Sports Schedules & Standings page.
