Pride prevails

Westfield – Curtis Bolduc (South Windsor, Conn.) scored a pair of goals to lead Springfield College to a 4-1 over Westfield State University in men’s soccer non-conference action on Saturday, September 10 on Alumni Field.
Springfield’s Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass. / Somers) scored the Pride’s first goal of the game with a header off a cross pass from Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass. / Christian Heritage) 6:47 into the first half.
Just minutes later, Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) took a shot that deflected off of a Westfield State defender. Bolduc found the back of the net with a loose ball off the deflection with 9:25 in the first half, making it a 2-0 start.
Westfield State’s long throw into the right side of the field met junior Connor Gilbert (Melrose, Mass.) for a header which then allowed sophomore Brodie Keene (Agawam, Mass.) to flick the ball into the far post making it 2-1 in the twelfth minute of the first half.
Just five minutes before halftime Springfield’s Cam Powell made it 3-1 after a deflected shot from Rich Humphrey (Mandeville, Louis. / Northlake Christian).
With seven minute left in the second half, Bolduc scored after Schneider crossed the ball from the right side of the field, allowing for Bolduc’s second goal of the day to lead Westfield 4-1.
Shots on goal were tied 7-7, though Springfield led 18-13 in total shots and 8-5 in corner kicks.
Springfield’s Zach Richard (Millbury, Mass.) played the first half of the game in goal, making one save and allowing one goal. Camden Spear (Boothbay, Maine) played the second half for the Pride, making five saves.
Westfield State’s Marc Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.) played all 90 minutes of the game, making three saves and allowing four goals.
With the win, Springfield improves to a 4-0 record while Westfield State falls to 2-2 on the year.
