Pride Tips Owls, 5-1

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield College got a pair of goals from Taylor Conley (Yarmouthport, Mass.) as the Pride marched to a 5-1 win over Westfield State, on Sunday afternoon on Stagg Field.
Springfield improved to 2-0 win the win, while the Owls fall to 1-1.
The Pride, out-shot the visitors 19-5 and took seven of the game’s nine penalty corners. Conley led the way with a pair of goals, bringing her season total to six in just two games as the 2016 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year has already surpassed her season total of five from a season ago. Taylor Low (Longmeadow, Mass.) was credited with a pair of assists in the victory, and Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.) made four saves between the pipes.
Conley opened up the scoring just 6:17 into the game before Belle Copponi (Dover, Mass.) netted what would prove to be the eventual game winner when she slotted home a shot into the left corner at the 15:52 mark. Just 1:25 later, Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) took advantage of a terrific look from Gabby Inkel (South Windsor, Conn.) off a penalty corner to give the Pride a 3-0 cushion heading into the half.
Holly Rivers (Danbury, Conn.) deflected in a her first collegiate goal just over two minutes into the second half. Westfield State freshman goalkeeper Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass.) was injured on the play as a Springfield attacker fell on top of her during action in front of the net. Goulet was releived by Katie Vamosi (Easton, Mass.) in goal. Vamosi would make five saves in the final 33 minutes of play to keep the Pride largely at bay in that span.
Senior Jordyn Gosselin (Bolton, Vt.) got the Owls on the board on a penalty corner. Carly Zona (Auburn, Mass.) was credited with the assist as she slid the insert pass to Gosselin for a rip from the left side of the circle.
Conley closed out the scoring when she blasted home a shot from the left wing off a feed from Low with under a minute to play to seal the win in the Pride’s home opener.
