How sad it was to read that another clueless person has so callously dropped off another piece of history to be destroyed by the police. In Saturdays paper I could not believe it when I read in the police log about a locally produced genuine world war one Smith and Wesson revolver (probably a .38 caliber, I presume) just handed over to the police for destruction…. nobody bothered to check with anyone having a background in military history (like myself) whether or not this was a rare piece, or judging by the numbers on it, where it might have been…if only it could have talked, what history would we hear? Alas, we will never know as it shamefully will now irrevocably go into the smelter, and the former owner is out the fair amount of money a collector like myself would have willingly paid for such a historic piece that once had proudly been produced to serve our nation. This is not the first time either, I recall in past issues of the paper German Luger pistols, Mauser rifles, and Japanese rifles handed over as unwanted to the police to be destroyed…shame on you for your callous disregard for historical preservation, and shame on the police for at least not separating valuable pieces that could be sold to collectors to raise needed revenue for the commonwealth. I hope you at least got a Wal-Mart card for destroying history. Take a moment to contact the Westfield Police Dept. if you feel so strongly on the topic. The gun may not have been destroyed yet.

The homeowners on Bailey Dr. are a bunch of CRYBABIES sounds to me they don’t want any OUTSIDERS on their streets they should all move to some gated community that’s what it seems they want. They already had Sammy Lane changed to a one-way street to alleviate traffic issues but that’s not enough to satisfy them now they want to eliminate all traffic by more restrictions. Bailey and Sammy are city streets and non-residents can use them. If you are so concerned for your 24 kids don’t let them play in the streets you have sidewalks on BOTH sides of Bailey Dr. SO USE THEM! Now you want to close Sammy Lane and reopen EGELSTON RD. so ALL traffic is forced to other homeowners NICE AND SELFISH OF YOU. Someone on Bailey must be a good friend of Police Chief Camerota because chief said some resolution would be made. The chief, planning board and traffic commission should tell them to suck it up and live with it no more changes for you homeowners. All streets have traffic issues.
