SOUTHWICK- The Southwick Democratic Town Committee held a caucus March 19 at Town Hall to nominate two Democrats to two soon-to-be vacant positions in the town government.
Dr. Terry (Hannah) Putnam was nominated as the Democrat to run for the Board of Health seat currently held by Dr. Jerome Azia, who recently announced that he would retire from the Board of Health this year.
Jennifer D. Belden was nominated to run for Library Trustee as a Democrat. Belden is the treasurer of the Southwick Democratic Town Committee. Both the Board of Health position and the Library Trustee position are for three year terms.
Southwick Democratic Chair Doreen Goyette-Crowley said that because both Putnam and Belden ran for the nomination unopposed, that they expected the small turnout.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the March 19 vote was done via a drive-through system. Voters pulled up behind the Southwick Senior Center in their vehicles and committee members verified their status as Southwick voters before handing them their ballots.
Town elections are May 11. The Southwick Republican Town Committee has not yet announced if they will nominate candidates to run against Belden and Putnam.
The Southwick Republican Town Committee caucus vote is scheduled for March 31.
