Regional school district to remain remote at least until Nov. 30

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District will continue fully remote learning at least until the end of November.

The district switched to remote from hybrid this week because the Memorandum of Agreement with the teachers’ union called for remote learning if Hampden County COVID-19 positivity rates rose above 3%.

The union and administration are renegotiating the MOA to reflect the rates of district communities. Superintendent Jennifer Willard last week stated they would work to get students back in school as quickly as possible.

In a letter sent to families Nov. 10, Willard wrote that “additional time is needed to negotiate a new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the District and the Teachers’ Union. Therefore, full remote learning will continue for all students until at least November 30, 2020.”

Willard said she hopes they will have a signed MOA soon. “We recognize the impact that this has on students and families and hope to have an agreement soon that keeps our students and staff safe,” she stated. “Thank you for your continued support and patience.”

The announcement came the day after Willard shifted Powder Mill School to remote learning through November because of several COVID-19 positive cases that may have been transmitted in the school. Families of those potentially affected were notified.
