SPRINGFIELD – The St. Mary’s High School boys soccer team got even Tuesday, improving to 3-3 with a solid effort on the road.
“We are continuing to improve our game play and are moving the ball with more purpose,” St. Mary’s boys soccer head coach Andy Lussier said, following the Saints 5-3 win over Duggan Academy.
The first half was fairly matched though St. Mary’s was the first to score on a cross from Joe Lucardi to Jack Lamirande in the seventh minute. Duggan responded with a goal from Frankie Diaz four minutes later Lamirande regained the lead for the Saints just before the half, scoring off a pass from Brady Collins.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Duggan knotted the game when Juan DeJesus scored on a penalty kick. The Saints battled back again when Lamirande took a pass from Everett Stec and scored 12:50 into the half. Diaz scored on a through pass from Alex Ramirez in the 58th minute.
St. Mary’s controlled the pace from there on in, making several runs and putting quality shots on net. Lamirande scored again on a cross pass from Stec in the 62nd minute. Collins scored the final Saints’ goal with just under nine minutes remaining. Lamirande assisted.
“The boys have really made progress in the last week and are working well together,” coach Lussier said. “We are improving but still have some work to do.”

Dan Kontsimal recorded a hat trick in the first five minutes of the game; Livingston Ndayi scored two goals; and, Carter Slack, Vlad Bulatov, and Steve Velazquez notched their first career goals in Westfield Technical Academy’s blowout victory.
Bodhi Hall and Emil Sevastyanov also scored for the Tigers.
Westfield 159, Holyoke 182
Westfield improved to 4-1 with a win over Holyoke at Tekoa Country Club.
Sophomore Anthony Schabowski led all golfers with a 1-over-37. Colin Scanlon (39), David Tirrell (41), and sophomore Joey Caldarella (42) also delivered solid outings.
“We have a chance to play real well this year,” Westfield head golf coach Chris Strycharz said. “We are pretty deep with five to six guys shooting high 30s-to-low 40s every match. We just need to play smart, and our players are buying into ‘smart’ and doing what we need to.”
Strycharz said the relative consistency from Tirrell, a junior, and senior Brian Daley, both captains, has provided stability to the team so far this season. Daley and Tirrell have bounced between the Nos. 1 and 2 spots.
