Schieppe homers in loss

NORTHAMPTON – Westfield’s Sam Schieppe hit a second-inning homer, putting smiles on her teammate’s faces. Unfortunately for the fifth-seeded Bombers, they could not barrel past No. 4 Northampton in Monday’s West Division 1 softball quarterfinal at Northampton High School. The Blue Devils won 9-1.
Northampton’s Zoe Driscoll-Sbar and Calista Lebron each homered, pitcher Anna Kerwood (11 Ks) tossed a four-hitter and the fourth-seeded Blue Devils grounded the fifth-seeded Westfield Bombers 9-1.

Sbar went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and three RBIs. Abby Pelis (RBI) and Amanda Mieczkowski (double, 3 RBIs) each had two hits for Northampton (17-4).
Northampton established an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Westfield (12-8) cut the lead in half on a booming home run from Sam Schieppe in the top of the second. The Blue Devils reclaimed a two-run advantage with a run in the third and methodically built a lead throughout.
