Over the weekend, the Boy Scouts of Troop 821, out of the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, completed two projects to protect Westfield ‘s water supply. Led by Eagle Scout candidate Zachary Zak, the boys installed informational kiosks and completed other tasks at Westfield reservoirs located in Granville and Montgomery. The kiosks will contain information describing the watershed, regulations that apply to the surrounding area and steps to follow to protect our water supply.
In addition to the installation of two kiosks, Zachary Zak’s Eagle Project included the installation of informational signs along the access road to the Granville Reservoir, landscaping at the entrance of both watersheds and cleaning up of litter at both locations. The two-day project included over 120 man-hours of labor and extensive coordination with The City of Westfield’s Water Resources Department and the Water Commission. Chairman of the Water Commission, Ron Cole, as well as Commissioner Matt Barnes and Deputy Superintendent of the Water Division, Francis Cain, were on hand throughout the weekend working directly with the scouts.
