Shea leads Owls to 2nd at Elms

CHICOPEE – Tim Shea captured the individual title to lead the Westfield State University men’s cross country team to second place in the Elms College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Chicopee State Park.
Though most of their top runners took a week off from competition, the Owls had a runner-up total of 47 points, trailing only the University of New England (36 points) in the 12-team invitational.
Shea, who was sidelined with an injury early in the season, posted a winning time of 27:20 on the 8,000 meters (5 miles) course. The sophomore from West Springfield finished 25 seconds ahead of Trinity’s Patrick Hoagland.
Westfield’s other top runners were: Zak Gross (4th), Colin Morse (11th), Matt Moussamih (14th), Cam Fairbanks (17th), Pat Burns (18th), and Steve Connolly (25th).
