SOUTHWICK – The Select Board May 26 approved re-issuing a Class II car dealership license at 642 College Highway.

The property is owned by Zuber Realty and leased by Mohamed Sadique Abdul Cader, doing business as Silk Road Motor Cars, LLC.

The description of the premises is as follows: Building 40′ X 60′ with two offices and a six-bay garage.

Cader said he plans to sell previously owned vehicles. The license allows for 25 vehicles on site. Selectman Douglas Moglin asked to clarify the number and where they would be parked because the parcel also includes a second business, Yellow Bear Marketplace.

Selectman Joseph Deedy said the Silk Road vehicles would all be parked in the rear of the parcel. Yellow Bear is located at the front of the property , with parking in front.

“I talked to Mr. Zuber today and the police and Yellow Bear has X number of spots in front and these are in the back,” Deedy said.

Chief Administrative Officer Karl Stinehart noted that the Southwick Planning Board already approved the site plan.

Deedy asked Cader about his past experience in the car business.

“I was attached to a car dealership in Springfield the past two years,” Cader said.

Deedy said he wanted to make sure Cader was familiar with the paperwork involved and warned him that the Board expected him to follow the laws.

“In this town, we’re kind of tough,” Deedy said.

Cader said any repairs needed to cars he sells will be done in Westfield by the Car Repair Center.

During the meeting, Select Board Chairman Russell Fox stepped down as a Board member because he is an abutter to the property. During general comments, he praised the property owner.

“The Zubers are great neighbors and are very professional,” he said, noting that “with this license, there are eight Class II and one Class I license between this location and the center of town at the War Memorial.”
