Southwick shuts out Sabis

SOUTHWICK – Whether it be due to a mercy rule or a rain-shortened victory or both, the Southwick High School baseball team celebrated another win Wednesday by shutting out Sabis 10-0 in five innings.
Southwick (11-7) scored all 10 runs in the fifth inning with rain drops falling. Johnny Cesan (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs) and Bart Shea (double, run, 2 RBIs) landed the big hits in the inning. Cesan unleashed a two-run single and Shea delivered a two-run double.
Southwick’s Josh Lis finished with a unique stat line, going 0-for-0 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and two runs scored. Nick Ensign (RBI, 2 runs), Josh Sylvia (double, run, RBI), and Sam Mizanoglu each had a hit for the Rams.
Mizanoglu tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out six batters and walking one.
Southwick returns to action Thursday at home against Chicopee Comprehensive at 3:30 p.m.

Westfield’s Brianna Shvetsov rallied at first singles, coming within a few points of a second set victory before falling to Chicopee Comp’s Aliz McLiesh. Bombers’ Makenzie Ritcbie also put up a fight at third singles before losing to Colts’ Brittany Pietskowski, 3-6, 3-6.
Westfield’s top doubles pair, Thea Glenzel and Brigid Moriarty fell 2-6, 4-6.
