A free event offered for children grades three to six, the event will allow children to learn about rock crystals and how to make them, including how to make rock candy.

Diane Caruso, Director of the Southwick Public Library, is looking forward to a very beneficial event.

“It should be fun, they learn something, and they get to go home with some candy,” said Caruso.

Caruso also noted that the Makerspace Monday activities each month are a part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program that is under the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. STEM focuses on high quality learning standards, identifying, developing, and creating resources, facilitating network opportunities for teachers throughout districts, and communicating with stakeholders about recent developments for STEM.

If any parent is interested in signing up their child for this month’s Makerspace Monday event, they can register at the Southwick Public Library or call the library at 413-569-1221. The deadline to register is Saturday, January 12.
