Storm delays MASCAC championships

WESTFIELD – The storm that is currently impacting the region has forced the re-scheduling of the quarterfinal rounds for the 2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer and Volleyball Championships. Both quarterfinal round contests of the respective soccer tournaments have been moved to Wednesday, October 31st, while the quarterfinal round matches in volleyball have been moved to Thursday, November 1st.

MEN’S SOCCER
In men’s soccer, third-seeded Westfield State will host sixth-seeded Fitchburg State on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT, while fourth-seeded Bridgewater State will host fifth-seeded Worcester State on Wednesday afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
The Westfield State-Fitchburg State winner will advance to take on second-seeded Framingham State in semi-final round action on Friday, November 2nd at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Mass. beginning at 2:00 p.m., while the Bridgewater State-Worcester State winner will take on top-seeded Salem State in Friday’s other semi-final match at Alumni Field in Salem, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT. The two semi-final winners will meet for the MASCAC Championship on Sunday, November 4th at the highest remaining seed.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
In women’s soccer, third-seeded Bridgewater State will host sixth-seeded MCLA in quarterfinal round play on Wednesday afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 5:00 p.m. EDT, while fourth-seeded Framingham State will entertain fifth-seeded Salem State in Wednesday afternoon’s other quarterfinal match at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Mass. beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
The Bridgewater State-MCLA winner will advance to take on second-seeded Worcester State in semi-final round play on Friday, November 2nd at Coughlin Field in Worcester, Mass., while the Framingham State-Salem State winner will take on top-seeded Westfield State in Friday’s other semi-final round match at Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass., as both semi-final contests will begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT. The two semi-final winners will meet for the MASCAC Championship on Sunday, November 4th at the highest remaining seed.

VOLLEYBALL
In volleyball, Wednesday’s scheduled quarterfinal matches have been moved to Thursday, November 1st, as third-seeded Westfield State will host sixth-seeded MCLA at the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass., while fourth-seeded Worcester State will entertain fifth-seeded Salem State at Lancer Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass., as both of those contests will begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
The two quarterfinal winners will advance to Saturday’s semi-final round on Saturday, November 3rd at Framingham State’s Athletic and Recreation Center, which will be the host site for all remaining rounds of the championship. The Worcester State-Salem State winner will take on top-seeded Framingham State in the first semi-final on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. EDT, while the Westfield State-MCLA winner will square off with second-seeded Bridgewater State in the second semi-final at 1:00 p.m. EDT. The two semi-final winners will meet for the MASCAC Championship on Saturday afternoon 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second semi-final match.
