NEW BEDFORD – Westfield State pulled off a first-round upset, as the #6 seed Owls capsized the #3 UMass Dartmouth Corsairs by a 3-0 final in the MASCAC Tournament on Saturday night at Hetland Arena.
Westfield State senior goaltender Jonathan LoParco made 34 saves in earning the shutout.
The Owls got single goals in the first, second, and third periods.
Freshman forward F.X. Girard redirected a Lenny Caglianone shot in the first period for the game winner. Josh Delezenne and Pearce Vance added tallies for the Owls.
Westfield will advance to play #2 seed Salem State on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Rockett Arena in Salem. – Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
