Peterson fuels Rams’ run

WESTFIELD – The Southwick-Tolland Regional High School girls’ track and field team have a lot to be proud of.
On Monday at the Central/West Division 2 championships, senior Alexis Peterson finished runner-up in the 100 hurdles (16.08), behind Oxford’s Emily Dawidczyk (14.80), and placed fifth in the javelin (107-8), as well as helping the 4×100 relay team – also comprised of Mariah Collins, Morgan Wundt, and Jess Teodore – claim second (51.70). Sutton took first in the relay with a time of 51.40.
Collins took bronze in the discus with a throw of 108-11. Sabrina Silva, of Mahar was first with a distance of 120-4.
Southwick’s Paige Cool tied for 11th in the high jump (4-8), and teamed up with Abigail Howe, Brittany Wheeler, and Sam White to finish ninth in the 4×400 relay (4:28.78).
The Rams’ 4×800 relay team (Emily McKinney, Cassie White, Katie Merritt, Nabilah Khan) finished 13th (11:03.04). McKinney was 20th in the 800 meters (2:37.14).
Southwick finished 8th overall as a team at Westfield State. Frontier (61 points), Notre Dame Academy-Worcester (54), and Mahar (38) were the top three finishers.
BOYS’ RESULTS
Southwick’s 4×100 relay team – Juan Fuentes, Mike Fleming, Nick Peterson, John Devine – had the best finish for the boys’ track and fielders, finishing 4th (45.83) at Westfield State Monday.
Other top 10 Rams’ finishers were: Jonathan Collins in the high jump (6th, 5-10), Peterson in the triple jump (40-3.5), and Chris Roy in the 2 mile (11:27.04).
Colin Devine placed 14th in the 400 meter hurdles for Southwick in 1:07.81, and 21st in the long jump (17-6). Rams’ 4×400 relay team (Dan Lane, Jesse Greg, Jonathan Collins, John Devine) finished 14th with a time of 3:49.22.
The top three teams were Auburn (53 points), Putnam (49), and Whitinsville Christian (48). Southwick was 24th (8 points).
